When organizing the file is not enough

Signals that it may be time to speak with a licensed attorney in your state.

ClaimOtter is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. This guide does not determine your rights, deadlines, coverage, or claim value.

01

Escalation signals

A clean file helps an attorney evaluate the situation faster. It does not replace that evaluation.

  • A lawsuit or appraisal is already active.
  • A contractual or statutory deadline may be near.
  • The carrier accuses anyone of fraud or misrepresentation.
  • There are multiple policies, insurers, properties, or represented parties.
  • The loss is large enough that delay or error would materially harm you.
  • You are being asked to sign a release or settlement you do not understand.

02

What to bring

Bring the policy, position letters, estimates, payment history, photographs, chronology, and every known deadline. Separate what the documents prove from what you remember or infer.

03

Consent stays with you

ClaimOtter does not choose a lawyer for you or guarantee representation. Any referral packet should leave only after you approve the recipient and the documents being shared.
